Full-stack developer
Every website we launch stays with us on a maintenance plan, so the developer who built it keeps meeting their own code for years. We are looking for someone who builds like they know that.
Neat is a strategic UX/UI design and product development studio of 12 people in Vilnius, established in partnership with Synthesis CG, a leading consulting ecosystem. We design and build digital products, from websites and e-commerce to platforms and apps, working alongside strategy, branding and communication specialists from the group on many of our projects.
As a developer at Neat, you would build what our designers design and keep running what we have already launched. Most new projects are built on Payload CMS 3 and Next.js 15, hosted on Vercel, with the occasional new build still on WordPress when the project calls for it. Alongside that, we maintain and support over 30 live websites, most of them WordPress on the Roots stack (Sage, Bedrock, Blade, Alpine.js, Tailwind CSS), hosted on DigitalOcean. You would work in both: new builds on the modern stack, support and smaller builds on WordPress. You would work with our lead developer, who owns the development process, and with a Project Manager who owns the plan and the client communication, so your time goes into the build rather than into meetings about it.
We are looking for a developer who ships with AI tools every day and still reads every line before it merges.
Key responsibilities
- Build new websites and platforms on Payload CMS 3 and Next.js 15 from the published specification and the approved Figma designs: shared components first, then pages, responsive behaviour, states and motion.
- Build, extend and fix WordPress sites on the Roots stack for the projects we maintain.
- Handle support and maintenance tasks on live projects: estimate them, fix, update, add small features, and deliver within the agreed response times. This is a meaningful share of the week.
- Model content in the CMS so the client can edit everything the specification says is editable, and set up integrations (forms, analytics, CRM, payments, third-party APIs) from the project's integration list.
- Work through local, staging and production with feature branches. Only complete, production-safe work merges to develop; staging is always deployable.
- Review the other developer's merges within one working day, and have yours reviewed, against the studio checklist: matches the spec, uses design tokens instead of hardcoded values, clean console, no credentials in the repository, nothing you would not want to maintain in a year.
- Take part in QA: fix what the designer, PM and Product Director find before client acceptance, and run the launch sequence with our lead developer.
- Build with Claude Code: skills, subagents and spec-driven workflows are how we work, and you would help improve them, including the support automation and code review agent we are building now.
- Ask the PM when the specification does not answer a question instead of guessing, and push repeated gaps back into the spec.
- Keep every project in a state someone else could pick up: documented setup, no surprises in the repo, access and credentials where they belong.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional web development, in an agency or studio environment.
- Solid WordPress experience: custom themes built from scratch, PHP, and the ability to work inside existing codebases you did not write. Roots (Sage, Bedrock, Blade) experience is a strong advantage.
- Working knowledge of a modern JavaScript stack: TypeScript, React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS. Payload CMS is a plus; you will learn it here either way.
- Daily, hands-on use of Claude Code or an equivalent agentic coding tool. We build with it on every project and expect you to arrive already working this way.
- Git with feature branches and a staging/production flow.
- Accurate implementation of Figma designs: responsive behaviour, states, motion.
- Clean, semantic markup, and a working understanding of what makes a page fast and accessible.
- Able to estimate a task, say early when something will not fit the estimate, and explain a technical decision to a non-developer.
Bonus points if you
- Have delivered e-commerce projects (WooCommerce, Shopify or a headless setup).
- Have built multilingual sites (WPML, Payload localization).
- Know your way around Vercel, DigitalOcean, Laravel Forge, Neon or similar hosting and deployment setups.
- Have set up CI, automated tests or error monitoring on a project.
- Have built an MCP server, a Claude Code skill, or any other automation around your own workflow.
- Have worked with Webflow or migrated a site away from it.
- Can show performance and accessibility work, not just talk about it.
What we offer
- A documented development process (environments, review, definition of done, QA gates), so "done" means the same thing to you, the PM and the client.
- A small team with direct access to the partners, where your work is visible and your opinion on the stack counts.
- An AI-driven workflow built around Claude Code, which you would help shape.
- A stack that is being hardened right now: code review tooling, CI, tests and monitoring are in progress, and you would be part of setting them up rather than inheriting someone else's choices.
- Variety: new builds on Payload and Next.js, a live base of over 30 WordPress sites, and e-commerce, platforms and apps in between.
- Opportunities for continuous learning and growth, with a clear path: Developer grows into Senior Developer, with more ownership of architecture and tooling along the way.
- Possibility of a hybrid working model after the trial period (up to 1-2 days per week from home).
- Interdisciplinary environment within the Synthesis CG ecosystem.
Neat is a good fit if you
- Like building against a clear specification, and raise it when the spec is thin instead of quietly filling the gap yourself.
- Are as comfortable in a five-year-old WordPress theme as in a fresh Next.js repository.
- Get satisfaction from a site that still works a year later and a component nobody has had to rebuild.
- Use AI tools to move faster and still own every line that merges.
- See working alongside designers, strategists and project managers as a learning and growth opportunity.
